Using the Serial Number for Registration and Claims

Once collected, serial numbers enable registration at any time, even years after purchase. For brands that accept late registration, entering the serial number along with an approximate purchase date creates a warranty record that supports future claims. For recall checks, the serial number is entered into the brand's recall lookup tool or cpsc.gov to determine whether the specific unit is within any affected production range. This check takes under a minute and should be done at registration time and periodically thereafter for products used in safety-critical contexts.
