Unlike other products, laptops store their serial number in software. Here's how to find it on any operating system in under 30 seconds.
Laptops are the one product category where you do not need to flip the device over or find the box - the serial number is stored in firmware and accessible through your operating system in seconds. This is particularly useful for thin laptops where the bottom sticker may be small or in an inconvenient location.
If you prefer the physical sticker: on Apple MacBooks, the serial number is engraved or printed on the bottom case near the hinge. On Dell laptops, the 'Service Tag' (Dell's term for serial number) is on the bottom near the battery compartment or on a sticker accessible when the back panel is removed. On HP laptops, it is on the bottom sticker or inside the battery compartment on removable-battery models. On Lenovo ThinkPads, the serial number is on the bottom sticker.
Your laptop serial number is in your settings. 30 seconds to find it, 90 seconds to register. No flipping required.
Bawte Consumer Guide
Dell uses 'Service Tag' rather than 'Serial Number' - they are equivalent. When registering a Dell laptop, use the Service Tag. It is a 7-character alphanumeric string (e.g., 'ABC1234'). Dell's support portal at support.dell.com accepts Service Tag directly.
Your serial number is in your OS settings. Warranty and recall protection start immediately after registration.
Once you have the serial number, registration takes 90 seconds on the brand site or through Bawte. Warranty record and battery recall alerts are active from the moment you confirm.
Serial number from settings, 90 seconds on Bawte, warranty record and recall alerts active immediately.
Bawte monitors your specific laptop model for battery recall events and notifies you directly.
Some laptop brands include QR codes linking directly to their registration portal - scan for instant access.
