Dell SupportAssist is pre-installed on all consumer and commercial Dell laptops. On first boot, the Windows setup wizard prompts you to sign in with a Dell account. If you do, the laptop's Service Tag (Dell's serial number equivalent) is registered to your account automatically. SupportAssist runs periodic hardware health checks and notifies you of driver updates, battery degradation, and warranty expiry. Warranty status appears directly in the SupportAssist dashboard, and you can initiate a support request or schedule an on-site repair visit without leaving the app. The Service Tag is also engraved or printed on the bottom of the laptop for physical reference.

HP Support Assistant and HP Account Registration

HP laptops ship with HP Support Assistant pre-installed. Creating an HP account during setup links the laptop's serial number to your account for warranty tracking and support. HP Support Assistant runs diagnostics, checks for driver updates, and shows warranty status in the main dashboard. For HP business laptops (EliteBook, ProBook), HP also offers BIOS-level registration through HP Sure Admin and integration with Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
