E-bike battery recalls are among the most serious consumer safety actions the CPSC takes. Registration ensures you find out about yours - before a fire does.
Lithium-ion battery fires burn hot, spread rapidly, and are difficult to extinguish. The CPSC has issued multiple recalls for e-bike battery packs with fire and explosion risks - in some cases resulting in residential fires and injuries. These are not minor inconveniences; they are genuine safety emergencies.
E-bike batteries are often charged inside homes - in garages, hallways, or living areas. A thermal runaway event from a defective battery in an occupied space can be catastrophic. Recall remedies (replacement battery packs) eliminate the risk, but only if registered owners know to request them.
Search recalls.gov for your e-bike brand under the Sports, Fitness, and Recreation or Electric Bikes category. Also search for the battery manufacturer separately - some battery packs are made by third-party cell suppliers and recalled under the battery brand, not the bike brand.
Locate your battery model number (on the pack housing label) and your bike serial number (head tube or bottom bracket). Compare both against any recall notices found.
E-bike battery fires happen in homes. Registration is how you find out your battery has a known defect before it becomes a fire.

Registration with the manufacturer means any future recall for your bike model or battery model triggers a direct notification to your email. The 75% open rate on safety recall emails shows that people respond to these alerts - but they can only respond if they receive them.
Register both the bike and the battery separately if the brand allows. Battery recalls can occur independently of bike recalls - having both serials registered provides complete coverage.
Registration ensures you find out. Not the fire department.
Stop charging and using the recalled battery immediately. Follow the recall notice instructions for obtaining a free replacement. Do not attempt to repair the battery yourself. Store it in a cool location away from flammable materials while waiting for the replacement.
Many e-bike recall programs provide a prepaid shipping label and send a replacement battery within 2–4 weeks. Some in-person dealer programs allow immediate battery swap at an authorized location.
Register both bike and battery serials - direct recall notifications for both if either is recalled.
Battery recalls can be independent of bike recalls - separate serial registration provides complete protection.
Scan the frame QR code at delivery - enrolled in recall notifications before the battery sees its first charge.
Battery recall alerts could prevent a residential fire.
